As stated yesterday, it was a great day. Belgium at it’s finest. 3 hairpins and speeds can exceed 60 km/h. Predrifting, outside, apex, inside, a lovely track.
Saturday’s party with the Durke’s team was amazing. Some of the guys are such magicians with instruments, so the late night jam session at F.A.S.T. Scheveningen was unbelievable. Dancing, laughing and loving all night long. I went to bed at around 5 a.m.
Unfortunately my biological alarm clock was set at around 8 o’clock. I woke up, grabbed my phone and saw: “Leaving at 10 a.m. we’ll meet the others there, gear up! Let’s go Downhill!” ..Instant stoke. Helmet, Leather, kneepads, slide gloves, skate tool, some food, I was on a mission. Get there.
Weather was a little chilly, luckily my leather suit can handle a hoody underneath. It took just one run to get warm. Not too much wind and the sun combined with a beautiful winter blue sky made being outside quite nice, especially for this time of the year. The hairpins are about 180 degrees and very technical. It really is a great spot to practice your pre-drifts. And so we did.
I love drifting through a hairpin, don’t know why. I guess I prefer going sideways. Anyhow, I learned and experienced yesterday that a much faster way to get through corners is to pre-drift just enough to get a speed at which you can handle the corner without drifting at all. Especially the timing and accuracy is very hard to get right. I’m gonna have to practice this much more.
